Herbal tea: For 1 cup of tea, pour 1.5 g (about 1 teaspoon) of Cystus ^® organic tea in boiling water and - depending on your taste - leave to soak for 2 to 5 minutes.

All our cistus teas contain exclusively the cistus variety Cistus x incanus L. Pandalis discovered by Dr. Pandalis. The four different product names are the result of history: In the past, a distinction was made according to the time and region of harvest.

From the harvest to the market
The rockrose herb is harvested for our teas under fair conditions from certified organic cultivation. During harvesting, only a few young shoots are picked by hand in the traditional manner – in the same way as the wild goats living there, who eat parts of the plant without tearing them out completely. Following the harvest, the shoots are gently dried in the shadows by sea breezes, hand-selected, cut and packed into the bag in which it arrives at your home.

Only in September 2013 did analyses carried out by an independent laboratory (Eurofins Food GmbH) repeatedly confirm that the content of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in Cystus^® organic herbal tea is below the detection limit.

”Higher proportion of woody shoots and twigs in Cystus^® organic herbal tea?”
We often receive consumer enquiries about the “high proportion of woody rockrose parts” in our Cystus^® organic herbal tea. In addition, various suppliers advertise that their Cistus products only contain “abundant finely-cut leaves, with no wood or clippings”.
Answer: In accordance with the traditional harvesting process described above, the herbal tea also contains a certain proportion of fresh woody stalks. This makes sense because the content of vital substances is highest then. Cistus incanus belongs to a category of soft-leaved, herbal plants that have adapted very well to extremely dry locations and are exceptionally resistant to drought [1]. These plants don’t concentrate their valuable vital substances in the blossoms or leaves, but mostly in the woody shoots or small twigs. In this way, they can throw off the leaves at the height of summer in extreme heat, to protect themselves from losing water. Comparative examinations have confirmed that our herbal tea, which consists of complete shoots, has far more valuable properties than mixtures that only consist of blossoms and leaves. Each raw material delivery and product batch is tested by us in the laboratory for its quality. You can also be sure that our tea products are high quality products rich in vital substances.
